Fishers has been sending an iTunes-compatible podcast out since 2010 using our WordPress website and easily accessible editing tools.

Intro: I established this approved feed with Apple and developed the system of creating and posting. Seeking to enhance our website and offer members and prospects an opportunity to hear our weekly messages, we used PodPress as a tool within our WordPress website to properly tag and store our podcast so that it is iTunes-compatible and easily accessible from our own website as well.

Details: Our sound system sends an audio feed to a handheld recorder; capturing the service in 96kbps .mp3 audio format.  An SD memory card is moved to a computer where a volunteer uses the free Audacity program to trim the audio to just the sermon, label it and re-save it as an mp3 file for uploading to our website.  Using the PodPress tool within our site, we easily add all the tags and titles needed by iTunes.

Additional details are added to a sermon “article” on our website (slides, study questions, etc.) and then it is published on our site.  The posting is instantly repeated out to Twitter and Facebook, and within 15 minutes appears in our iTune podcast.

On our website there is a section near the bottom where we display the last three sermons in our podcast (many more are just a click away).  In addition, since the sermon article (with audio) is tagged as a new post, it appears in the top section labeled “Latest At Fishers.”
